Remote Participation to OFES Theory Seminar

Our plan is to make OFES Theory Seminar available for remote participation. The following are the techniques for remote participation and presentation broadcasting. The Seminar host site can use one or a combination of techniques to broadcast the seminar, e.g. use ISDN-based Video Conferencing between the host site and OFES, and use MeetingPlace to broadcast the presentation slides to the broad community.

ISDN-based Video Conferencing

ISDN-based video conferencing is supported by ESNET video bridge. The Seminar host site is responsible for contacting ESnet collaboration services and reserving a video bridge for the Seminar. The host site also needs to announce the dial in numbers before the meeting. Participating parties need to contact their local responsible personnel and reserve their physical view stations in advance.

Access Grid

The seminar can be provided to remote participants via Access Grid. All participants need to reserve Access Grid nodes at their local sites by contacting local Access Grid operator. The Virtual Venue space will be reserved by the host of the seminar and the name of the "Virtual Venue" announced before the meeting. To guarantee the quality of remote participation, all participant sites need to test their AG nodes with the host site prior to the Seminar.

Presentation Slide Broadcasting and Viewing

The presentation slides for the seminar will be broadcasted via MeetingPlace, web conferencing software supported by ESnet. MeetingPlace is Java-based software and can be accessed from Windows, UNIX or Mac computers. The Seminar host site is responsible to schedule the meeting, upload presentation files and announce the meeting ID to other sites prior to the Seminar. The scheduling can be done at this web site: http://audiobridge.es.net.

Remote participants at other sites can view live slides during the Seminar via MeetingPlace website. To view the slides, go to http://audiobridge.es.net and click on the "Attend Meeting" button at the top page. Login as "Guest", enter your name and provided meeting ID (will be provided before the meeting). By clicking on the "join web conference" button, you can view the real-time presentation slides of the Seminar.
