Getting Started with EFIT

To gain some initial experience, the instructions below omit using many of of the options you may eventually desire.

To run EFIT on VAX

Run the "33x65" single precision version of EFIT by typing: run efit:efitd65y

To run EFIT on HPs

Run the "33x65" double precision version of EFIT by typing: /link/efit/efitd65yd 3 90291,3000,1,1

(If necessary, replace 90291 with number of a shot which is on disk.)

Change fitout.dat to 55mfit.pop: /ws5_usr/lao/efit/plot

Create postscript file and send to printer lps4 /link/efit/plotps

Explanation: This runs the EFIT executable efitd65yd located in the /link/efit area. Execution mode 3 (fit magnetic diagnostic data) is requested. Data to be fit is from shot 90291 at time=3000ms. Only 1 time slice is analyzed. The results of the fitting are in the output file fitout.dat, which is converted to a postscript file and sent to the printer lps4. (If you wish to plot to some other printer device, copy /link/efit/plotps to your working directory and edit to replace lps4 with the printer device you wish to plot to.)

To Run EFIT on Cray (ama at NERSC)

There are two versions of EFITs available on ama at nersc, they are both located in the area /tmp/wk1/u6432/efit. Run the "65x65" single precision version of EFIT by typing: /tmp/wk1/u6432/efit/efitd6565 (ITEK needs to be set to 4.)

Plotting on the tektronic or X11 screen by using distek or xtek. To generate plots on postscript printer lps4: /tmp/wk1/u6432/efit/plotq (or for 4 plots per page, use plotq4) /tmp/wk1/u6432/efit/gplot. The graphic data file is called gmeta and is translated using gplot.
