The Data Analysis Applications Group (DAAG) was formed October 1997, initially charged with improving the DIII-D data analysis capabilities. Today the DAAG is involved in a wide range of computer science activities.

For the DIII-D National Fusion Facility, the group is responsible for increasing the data analysis throughput of the scientific staff. This work includes large scale data management, scientific visualization, and scientific computation with parallel processing. The DAAG is involved in a number of USDOE Scientific Discovery through Advanced Computing (SciDAC) Projects including being the lead organization for the National Fusion Collaboratory Project that is a pilot collaboratory being developed to advanced scientific understanding for the U.S. magnetic fusion community, the Plasma Microturblence Project, and the Center for Extended Magnetohydrodynamic Simulations.

The DAAG created and runs the Advanced Imagery Laboratory (AIL) for General Atomics. The AIL has an eight projector, 10 million pixel, tiled display wall that is used for a wide variety of visualization and collaborative environments. The AIL also does advanced visualization and algorithm development for SAR and LIDAR data.
