Strategy on IFE Power Plant Development in Japan

The activities in Japan on the development of IFE power plant are reviewed. They are (1) the efforts at ILE to demonstrate ignition and burning including fast ignition, (2) design and development of power plant of IFE keeping the collaborative network of reactor technology specialists which include chamber design, target fabrication, injection, and tritium handling, (3) driver development keeping the joint efforts with its industrial applications which include DPSSL of ns and fs versions, KrF laser and HIB, and (4) utilization of international collaboration through IAEA-CRP and other channels. The activity of IFE Forum is also reported, the support organization for IFE development in Japan which consists of major companies being related to energy and electric power.
