The paper discusses some of the issues related to application of a special carrier in the process of acceleration of the
target in the injector of the Coil-&-Gas Gun (CGG) type [1].
A carrier made of the composite material is under consideration.
The latter represents polymer material with ferromagnetic particles built into it. The material of such a type makes it possible to obtain preliminary acceleration
of the carrier in electromagnetic field of a system of coils, whereas its
relatively low weight ensures subsequent effective acceleration of this element inside the gas gun.
Calculation results are reviewed relating to selection of the carrier design answering the following functions:
(a) transfer of the movement impulse onto the target;
(b) target protection from mechanical failure due to overloads;
(c) target protection from the excess heat arising in the process of acceleration.
